There is no other/consider others
1
Participation Pledge
-
I will attempt to live as if there is no ‘other’ as the good news of God's love extends to every person from every culture.
-
There is no infidel, dalit, or unenlightened as we all exist in the consciousness of God.
-
I will therefore commit to considering others by rejecting the discrimination and condemnation of certain groups, embracing everyone, and taking responsibility for the well-being of others as an expression of God's love in me.
Cultivate TRANSFORMATION WITH VIRTUE AND SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
2
-
I will attempt to live as if God has written his law of Love on my heart and has invited me to be transformed by the Spirit.
-
The goal is spiritual union and a transformed nature which is expressed by generosity for the well-being of another.
-
Spiritual transformation is cultivated in an atmosphere of virtue and by abiding in Christ through spiritual practice.
-
Spiritual transformation is the process of experiencing God’s grace and responding correctly, creating a momentum towards positive growth.
-
I therefore commit myself to virtue and spiritual practice in order to cultivate love.
Gather and organiZe for good
3
-
I will attempt to live as if I am called for the purpose of increasing justice, beauty and peace in the world in community with other Jesus devotees.
-
The community should be marked by radical expressions of generosity.
-
The community should be a source of healing and empowerment for its members.
-
The community should take on the agenda of the loving creator and work to accomplish his will on the earth.
-
I therefore commit myself to gathering with others in a welcoming, intimate and supportive community that is organized to do good works and help those who are unable to help themselves.
speak truth AND SHAME EVIL
4
-
I am going to attempt to live as if our actions have consequences in terms of the society that we collectively build and in terms of pleasing God.
-
The opposite of love, selfish acts that cause harm, are sin.
-
Sin has and continues to dis-form and destroy God’s design for creation.
-
The big offenders (wealthy exploiters, corrupt politicians) are powerful and their sinful, selfish acts have the capacity to cause destruction and suffering on a grand scale.
-
Those oppressed, marginalized and exploited often lack the strength to stand up to these big offenders.
-
The people of God should follow the example of Jesus who stood up to the powerful in defence of the suffering.
-
I therefore commit myself to speak truth to power and warn wealthy exploiters and corrupt politicians because their actions cause others to suffer.
HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
5
-
I will attempt to live as if God’s promises to restore creation will be kept.
-
God’s promise is to make the project right and to reward those who work with him to that end.
-
I should therefore have a hopeful outlook that there is truth, purpose and meaning and that creation is heading to a destination.
-
If our lives are marked by spiritual transformation resulting in love, healthy relationships, and good deeds then we should be at peace with both our living and dying.
-
I will therefore look forward to the future, living a meaningful and hopeful life, and having confidence in death.
